General informations - Barcani
Barcani (Hungarian: Zágonbárkány) is a commune in Covasna County, in the geographical region of Transylvania, Romania. It is composed of three villages: Barcani, Lădăuţi (Ladóc) and Sărămaş (Szaramás). It also included Valea Mare village before it was split off to form a separate commune in 1999. The commune is situated south of Zagon, in the southeastern part of Covansna County.
LADÓC
It is a scattered settlement that lies along the two banks of the creek bearing the same name. From administrative point of view it used to belong to Bikfalva. Between 1980 and 1984 the Orthodox church of the settlement was constructed in the place where once there used to be an old chapel. The patron saints of the church are Archangels Michael and Gabriel. Inside visitors can see icons dating back to the 19th century. Popular traditions kept in the village are: greeting of the dawn, Christmas caroling and greeting the New Year.
SALAMÁS
The settlement lies north of Bodzaforduló, at the feet of the Oz Mountain. The small Orthodox church of the village, located near the main street, was constructed in Saint Michael`s honour.The land of the village is proper for vegetable-growing, the most frequently grown one is the potato. A lot of steep hillsides can be climbed only with the help of horse carts or carts drawn by oxen. In the village there is a small plant processing milk that produces cheese and salted cottage cheese (telemea). |
